Solenoids are essential in many fluid moving applications. This can include everything from food and drink manufacturing to agriculture, water treatment to refrigeration. They have an important role, improving safety and preserving resources. However, if you plan to use them, you need to ensure they are compatible. Because they handle different media, you must make sure they won’t deteriorate rapidly and cause problems. We want to have a closer look at that here, then you can rely on us if you want to order 430FR solenoid stainless steel for valves.
Two key parts
When it comes to compatibility, you need to consider the two pieces of the solenoid; the housing and the seal. Both of them must be compatible with the media to avoid issues. At the same time, they need to be able to coincide without harming each other. The last thing you want is the housing and seal reacting and causing damage to one or both.
Housing
The body of the solenoid has a big impact on the performance and service life. It needs to be strong and durable so it is able to withstand the operating conditions and environment. You need to ensure the material will be compatible with the media or you could have issues with corrosion and degradation, eventually leading to failure.
There are several common materials you can use here, including brass, PVC, aluminium, and cast iron. The latter can be a great option for industrial applications because it is strong, wear resistant, and can resist vibration. Brass is great for neutral media. One of the best materials is 430FR solenoid stainless steel. It has good corrosion resistance and machinability, but stands out due to its stable magnetic performance. It can ensure solenoids perform to a very high standard.
Seal
Solenoids have internal seals to maximise performance and reliability. They provide some key benefits, including improving the flow of media, preventing leaks, and protecting the body of the solenoid from corrosive media, high temperatures, and other hazards. The right sealing material will make a valve last a long time and minimise downtime.
There are lots of sealing materials to choose from. This includes common ones like NBR, EDPM, FKM, and PTFE. It’s absolutely vital to think about compatibility here because certain media will break down different materials. For example, NBR is known to be good for solenoids for oil processing applications. FKM on the other hand has really good chemical and heat resistance. PTFE is notable for being chemically inert, meaning it is compatible with a massive list of media.
Key things to think about
When you’re trying to decide which materials to use for the housing and seals for solenoids, including 430FR solenoid stainless steel, you need to consider several important factors. As we said, most importantly you need to ensure the materials are compatible with the media you are dealing with. So, think about it, including different chemicals, gases, oils, fuels, water, and even products like beer or buttermilk.
As well as the type of media, there are also situations where you need to consider the concentration. Some materials may be resistant to chemicals to a point, but higher concentrations could be problematic. For example, 304 stainless steel can resist 10% ammonium chloride, but is not suitable for 50% concentration.
The temperature of the media also has an impact. This is exactly the same as how resistance can change as the concentration does. At higher temperatures some materials can no longer resist different media. For example, 316 stainless steel can resist calcium chloride at 20 degrees Celsius but isn’t suitable if it is 100 degrees Celsius.
While the operating environment won’t have an impact on the sealing material, it can cause problems for the housing. You must think about the conditions, including temperature and presence of corrosive elements. One thing to consider is whether the environment involves seawater. If so, brass isn’t a good choice because it will corrode and deteriorate.
430FR solenoid stainless steel is a great choice
If you’re thinking about materials for solenoids, stainless steel is a great option for the housing for many applications. It is fantastic when it comes to compatibility. Crucially, it is resistant to a massive list of media and is great for high temperature, high pressure applications.
There are only a few situations where stainless steel isn’t a wise choice. It’s not good for certain media, including chlorides bromine, and bleach. If you’re working with them or they are present in the environment, it is best to choose a different material.
